Lyocell is a semi-synthetic fabric that is commonly used as a substitute for cotton or silk. Lyocell is 50% more absorbent than cotton, and has a longer wicking distance compared to modal fabrics of a similar weave.
Since there is little waste product, this process is relatively eco-friendly, though it is energy-intensive. Lyocell is fully biodegradable as the manufacturing process is free from harmful by-products. Products made from lyocell can be recycled, incinerated, or digested in sewage. The fiber will usually degrade completely in just eight days in waste treatment plants.
